Thinkware M1 Front + Rear Motorcycle Dash Cam

The Thinkware M1 records Full HD 1080p video at 30FPS from cameras mounted at the front and rear of a motorcycle or compatible powersports vehicle. A separate main unit stores the recordings, while a wired remote gives you a manual recording button and recording-status light.

This M1 includes the two cameras, main unit, remote, microSD card and listed mounting accessories. Built-in GPS and nearby Wi-Fi access add location information and phone-based playback. Compare the VIOFO MT1 motorcycle camera if you are choosing between two front-and-rear riding systems.

Record the front and rear of each ride

Both cameras record 1920 × 1080 video at 30FPS with Sony STARVIS IMX291 sensors. Each lens has an approximately 140° diagonal view.

The manufacturer’s M1 video introduces the system.

Super Night Vision 2.0 and WDR help process changing light. The camera does not use the newer STARVIS 2 sensor generation. Light, vibration, distance and relative speed still affect visible detail.

Use daytime stabilization where it helps

Electronic image stabilization reduces the effect of movement in daytime recordings. The guide calls this setting Daytime Video Stabilization; normal recording is used outside daytime conditions. It is a different setting from Super Night Vision.

Stabilization does not replace secure mounts or correct camera alignment. Tighten the mounts, check the horizon in the app and review a short recording after fitting the cameras. Recheck the installation after riding over rough surfaces.

The motocross photograph illustrates a riding environment. It is not a still recorded by the M1 and does not demonstrate the amount of stabilization you will obtain.

Treat IP66 as weather resistance with limits

The M1 is rated IP66 for dust and water resistance, but it is not an underwater camera. Thinkware’s guide says not to submerge the product or leave it outdoors for a prolonged period in rain. Keep connectors correctly fastened and follow the installation instructions.

Place the main unit in a protected inner part of the motorcycle, such as under the seat. Fit the remote where it does not obstruct vehicle operation, and route cables away from heat, moving components and controls.

The operating range is −10°C to 60°C. The ATV photograph illustrates powersports use; it is not evidence that the camera can withstand immersion, unlimited mud exposure or every weather condition.

Start with the ignition and save a moment manually

The M1 connects to the motorcycle’s key-on ACC and ground wiring. Once fully started, it records one-minute continuous clips while the ignition is on and shuts down when the ignition is switched off. It has no parking recording mode.

Press REC on the wired remote to save a one-minute manual clip: 10 seconds before and 50 seconds after the press. Manual and continuous recordings use separate folders. Overwrite settings and available storage still matter; copy important files to another device.

Check the remote’s status light before riding. Blue indicates continuous recording, flashing blue manual recording, and flashing red can indicate a camera or memory-card connection error. A supercapacitor supports shutdown; it is not a battery for recording with the ignition off.

Add speed and location information

GPS is built into the main unit and can add supported location and speed information to recordings. Set the time zone, daylight-saving option and speed units during setup so the saved information is useful.

Position the main unit according to the installation guide and check reception after fitting. GPS needs a usable satellite signal; structures and the mounting position can affect it.

The speedometer and ATV image illustrates the GPS feature. It is not an M1 recording or a claim about the accuracy of any particular displayed speed.

Review footage through a nearby phone connection

Connect with Thinkware DASH CAM LINK through the camera’s Wi-Fi for live view, settings and saved files. The M1 is screenless, so the app is useful when adjusting the camera angles. This is nearby Wi-Fi access, not remote cellular or cloud monitoring.

The guide states that recording stops while you configure settings, view the file list or play a video in the app. Finish the task and confirm recording has resumed before continuing your ride. Stop in a safe place to use the phone.

The manufacturer lists support for 32GB and 64GB Thinkware microSD cards. A card is included in this package. Back up files regularly and format the card as instructed; loop recording is not permanent storage.

The product image shows the two cameras beside a phone to illustrate playback. A phone is not supplied. Thinkware still offers its last desktop viewer download, but its current support page says the desktop viewer is no longer actively supported.

Plan the fit before installing

The listed camera cable lengths are 2.0m total at the front and 1.5m total at the rear. The wired remote cable is 2.0m. Check the routing distance with steering and suspension movement before mounting the components.

Use the guide’s key-on wiring instructions and a trained installer. It specifies a 12V supply for the M1; do not infer compatibility with other vehicle voltages from a generic dash-cam harness.

This BlackboxMyCar video discusses the M1. The Resources accordion also includes a dedicated installation video and a Honda CRF300L installation example. Use those as fitting references alongside the manufacturer’s guide, since motorcycle layouts differ.

Frequently Asked Questions

What condition is this unit in?

BlackboxMyCar Outlet products are tested, like new and backed by our in-house 10-point check. This unit includes a 12-month BlackboxMyCar warranty and our normal return policy.

What resolution do the cameras record?

The front and rear cameras each record Full HD 1920 × 1080 video at 30FPS.

Does it use Sony STARVIS 2?

No. This M1 uses Sony STARVIS IMX291 sensors. Super Night Vision 2.0 is the processing feature name, not a STARVIS 2 sensor designation.

Do the two 140° lenses provide a continuous 280° view?

No. They record separate front and rear views. Blind spots remain, so the angles should not be added and described as continuous surrounding coverage.

Does stabilization work the same way at night?

No. The guide specifies Daytime Video Stabilization. Outside daytime conditions, normal recording is used. Super Night Vision is a separate setting.

Can I submerge the M1 or leave it in prolonged rain?

No. It is IP66-rated, but the guide says not to submerge it or leave it outdoors for prolonged periods in rain. Install the main unit in a protected inner location and fasten the camera connectors correctly.

Does it record while the motorcycle is parked?

No. It records with the key-on supply and powers down when the ignition is off. It does not have a parking surveillance mode.

How is it powered?

A trained installer connects its power wiring to the motorcycle’s key-on ACC and ground. The guide specifies a 12V supply. It does not use a rechargeable battery for continuous riding footage.

What happens when I press REC?

The remote saves a one-minute manual clip covering 10 seconds before and 50 seconds after the press. Export anything important; the card and overwrite settings determine how recordings are retained.

Does it record during app playback?

No. The guide says recording stops while viewing the file list, playing videos or configuring settings in the app. Check that recording resumes after you finish.

Can I watch the motorcycle remotely over the internet?

No. Its Wi-Fi is a nearby connection to DASH CAM LINK. The M1 does not offer cellular or remote cloud monitoring.

What memory card does it support?

Thinkware lists 32GB and 64GB microSD support. A card is included in this package. Follow the guide’s card and formatting instructions, and back up files before formatting.

Where is the microphone?

The microphone is in the wired remote. You can enable or disable voice recording in the app.

How long are the camera and remote cables?

The front camera connection totals 2.0m, the rear totals 1.5m, and the remote cable is 2.0m. Measure the complete route before installation.

What does a flashing red light mean?

The guide identifies flashing red as a possible camera-to-main-unit or memory-card connection error. Stop safely and check the connections and card before relying on recording.

Can I still use the desktop viewer?

Thinkware provides its last desktop viewer download, but its current support page says the software is no longer actively supported. Use the supported mobile app where appropriate and check computer compatibility before installing the legacy viewer.

What maintenance does the system need?

Check mounts, wiring, camera lenses and recording status regularly. Export important footage and follow the guide’s card-formatting schedule. It is not a maintenance-free recorder.

What warranty applies to this M1?

This dash cam has a 12-month warranty. That term applies to this listing; original new-product videos or packaging are not the warranty reference.
