Add-a-Fuses are primarily used for hardwiring installations when you're installing your dash camera with a hardwiring kit. Check out our Add-a-Fuse Setup Guide to learn more.

What the Installation Package Includes

What is Parking Mode?

Parking mode is offered on most of the dash cams available at BlackboxMyCar. While it is important to protect your vehicle while driving, it is just as important to have your vehicle protected while it is parked. When the dash cam is in parking mode, footage will only be saved when there is an impact and/or motion. Parking mode can be enabled with a hardwiring kit or a battery pack.

For more information on parking mode, click here.

What is a Hardwire Kit?

A hardwiring kit enables parking mode. It allows your dash cam to remain powered on even when the vehicle's ignition is turned off. Installation is a breeze as you will only need to find an accessory fuse, constant fuse, and a grounding point.

What is a Battery Pack?

Most customers purchase the battery pack to avoid using the vehicle’s battery to power their dash cam. The battery pack is charged by either being hardwired into an accessory fuse or by being plugged into one of the vehicle's 12-volt cigarette sockets. We recommend the hardwiring the battery pack as it charges the battery pack quicker.

How much footage will my memory card store?

On average, a 2-channel dash cam writes 16GB/hour and a 1-channel dash cam writes about 8GB/hour.

Do I need a Rear Camera?

Accidents or events don't always happen at the front of the vehicle! Having a rear camera provides coverage for any events or accidents that may happen at the rear of the vehicle.

Do I need a IR Rear Camera?

An IR camera is designed to record the interior of the vehicle in low light conditions. This option is very popular among rideshare drivers.

What is a CPL filter?

A CPL filter attaches to the dash cam lens to eliminate lens flares, light reflections, and windshield glares.

Suited my needs perfectly

I would suggest to have some sort of filter for your car year make and model. It would greatly help to find out which kind of set up you need.

Great Kit but Junk Fuses (Low Profile Variety)

I purchased this kit to install a hardwired dashcam in a Honda Fit. I needed two Add-A-Fuse taps (low profile size), and this ended up being slightly cheaper than buying just the taps. The fuse taps worked well and installed easily. The circuit tester was really helpful and easy to use. I wouldn't have purchased the tester if it weren't included in this kit, but having now used it, I'd definitely recommend it.

The reason I'm only giving this four stars is the fuses (low-profile mini) are cheap junk. Both were slightly too big to fit into the receptacle on the Add-A-Fuse tap and required a large amount of pressing to insert. They actually required enough force I was pretty sure I was doing something wrong. After getting both partially in, I second-guessed my approach and decided to remove them. In the process of trying to pull them back out, the plastic housing immediately separated form the metal innards, causing the two metal prongs to pull apart and bend the center fuse wire. This happened with both fuses. At this point I didn't trust the fuses any more, went to the local auto store, and purchased some new 5A replacements. The replacements fit MUCH better in the Add-A-Fuse receptacle without needing tons of force to insert. In short, the fuses provided (for the low-profile mini size) appear to be cheap junk and slightly too big. Save yourself the hassle and buy better ones elsewhere for a few bucks.

Works as described.

Buying this install kit is cheaper then buying two Fuse Taps. Plus comes with the circuit tester, and other items you will need to complete a clean install. No issues to speak of during install.
