Front and rear dash cams for parking mode
Match recording and connectivity to your parking routine
Choose the recording behaviour first
We would choose a parking camera around what you need to review: a buffered incident clip, a broader record of activity, or remote access while you are away. Parking mode can help document an incident, but power, detection and recording settings affect what it captures. A front-and-rear system does not cover every angle or prevent damage.
For a low-power wake-up approach, consider the original Thinkware U3000. For a connected setup, compare the original BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus and the internet connection it needs. For front-and-rear recording with local access, the VIOFO A229 Pro Duo is a useful option. These are the exact models discussed here, rather than their newer successors.

| Exact model | Why we would consider it | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Original Thinkware U3000 | Front/rear RADAR wake-up for a power-conscious setup | CONNECTED is unavailable in RADAR parking mode |
| Original BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus | Front/rear recording with optional Cloud connectivity | Remote features need parked power, internet, coverage and suitable plan |
| VIOFO A229 Pro Duo 2CH | 4K UHD / 2K QHD recording with several parking modes | Local Wi-Fi access does not provide remote Cloud alerts |
Thinkware U3000: choose RADAR or connected access
The original U3000 records 4K UHD at the front and 2K QHD at the rear. Its front camera uses Sony STARVIS 2; that does not make the rear camera STARVIS 2. Bluetooth helps with local pairing, rather than providing an internet connection.
Front and rear RADAR can wake the system from a low-power state after qualifying detection. We would consider this when reducing parked power consumption is the priority. Thinkware CONNECTED is unavailable during RADAR parking mode. If remote access matters more, choose a supported connected operating mode and plan the powered hotspot/data connection.
RADAR wake-up is different from ordinary buffered motion/impact recording. The product’s 10-second-before and 10-second-after event description applies to buffered events, not to continuous coverage while RADAR is asleep. Time-lapse and impact energy-saving modes are separate choices. Check the detection limits and installation guidance in Thinkware’s RADAR explanation.

Match the Thinkware power supply to the vehicle
We would check the exact parking-power cable before choosing the installation. A suitable hardwired or OBD supply can enable parking mode, but the included cable and vehicle compatibility depend on the kit. An OBD connection is not automatically suitable for every gasoline vehicle or EV. Our OBD installation guide explains that option.
There is no fixed 24-hour result from a starter battery. Duration depends on the mode, detection activity, battery condition, cutoff settings, temperature and supply. For storage, the original U3000’s product/manual guidance lists 256GB while mixed support material also lists 512GB. Confirm the exact camera, card and firmware before choosing above 256GB; do not assume a firmware update resolves the conflict.
If you are comparing Thinkware alternatives, the Q1000 offers 2K QHD recording, while the F200 PRO uses 1080P FHD. Compare their own parking modes and power requirements. Neither inherits the U3000’s built-in RADAR simply because it shares the brand. Explore Thinkware dash cams. The Thinkware CONNECTED guide covers the separate network-service question.
BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus: plan the connected setup
The original Plus records 4K UHD at the front and 1080P FHD at the rear, both at 30 FPS. Its front uses an 8.4MP STARVIS 2 sensor; the 2.1MP rear uses STARVIS. Keep this original Plus separate from Plus II, LTE and BOX configurations.
For parking, choose the supported motion/event or time-lapse behaviour that suits the footage you want to review. H.265 and H.264 recording are available, but a codec name does not promise that every plate will be readable or establish a fixed recording duration.
BlackVue’s July 2025 firmware release explicitly includes the original Plus and describes v2.002 support for HDR and 1TB cards. Use the correct firmware and a confirmed compatible card. This is a firmware-dependent capability for the named original model, not a reason to relabel it as Series II.
For Cloud functions, allow for a compatible regional connectivity module or hotspot, SIM/data coverage where applicable, the supported plan and camera power while parked. A local Bluetooth connection is not always-on LTE. If considering the CM100G LTE Module (NA Version), confirm the regional module and exact camera pairing before choosing the accessory.

VIOFO A229 Pro Duo: front and rear with local access
This recommendation is the A229 Pro Duo two-channel configuration: 4K UHD at the front and 2K QHD at the rear, using IMX678 and IMX675 STARVIS 2 sensors with HDR. An interior camera belongs to a separate three-channel configuration.
Choose its parking mode around the record you need. Auto-event detection buffers triggered incidents; the current product describes 15 seconds before and 30 seconds after an event. Time-lapse records at intervals. Low-bitrate mode records continuously at a reduced bitrate, rather than sleeping until an impact.
For conventional hardwired parking, use the appropriate HK4 setup. A battery pack also needs the correct regulated output, cable and parking-signal arrangement; not every battery connection supplies the ACC logic a camera needs. The HK4 hardwire-kit details are a separate accessory check.
The exact model supports up to 512GB with an appropriate compatible endurance card. Wi-Fi lets you work with recordings locally, and GNSS provides positioning information. These are not remote Cloud alerts. If cabin coverage matters, compare the A229 Pro three-channel configuration separately. A CPL is an optical accessory for reflection control; check the exact kit for filter inclusion.

Plan parking power and storage together
A larger card leaves more room for recordings before older files are replaced. A battery provides energy to keep the camera powered. More storage does not extend the power supply, and more battery energy does not prevent the card from filling. Match both to the mode, number of cameras and time before you can copy a clip.
For a routine with long parking periods, we would check the available driving time before adding capacity. A dedicated pack charges while driving and supplies the camera when parked through the correct connection. It reduces the camera’s reliance on the starter battery in a properly installed setup, but does not guarantee a vehicle will start or that every incident will be recorded.
Save important clips separately and check recent files after installation. Do not rely on a locked file or a larger card as an indefinite backup.
Our PowerCell 8: match charging time to your routine
We created the PowerCell 8 to give drivers a dedicated parking-power option. It is manufactured by EGEN. The rated capacity is 12.8 V / 7,500 mAh / 96 Wh. We would match that energy to your camera load and daily recharge opportunity, rather than promise a fixed number of parking hours.
Its manual’s approximate full-charge figures are 50 minutes on the high-current hardwired setting and 100 minutes on the socket setting. Selected current, supply, starting charge and operating conditions matter. Short trips may not replenish all the energy used while parked.
PowerCell 8 uses LiFePO4 cells. Follow its documented charging and discharge limits; the chemistry is not an extreme-weather or guaranteed-lifespan promise. Choose the correct camera output connection and required parking trigger with us.

BlackVue B-130X: compare energy and the camera connection
The original B-130X is also rated at 12.8 V / 7,500 mAh / 96 Wh. Compared with the B-124X’s 76.8 Wh, it has 25% more rated energy. That is not a 25% faster charge or a measured runtime improvement for every camera. Its fuel-gauge circuit tracks current entering and leaving the pack, while displayed remaining time is still an estimate.
BlackVue gives approximate full-charge times of 50 minutes hardwired or 90 minutes through the vehicle power socket. The approximately 30-hour reference uses a 3 W single-camera load; it is not a promise for the dual-channel configurations in this guide.
Choose the output and cable for the actual camera, rather than limiting the pack to the old DR900X or DR750X examples or assuming it connects to every brand. We can help match the original B-130X connection. The newer B-130A is a separate model and should be checked on its own terms.

| Pack | Rated capacity | Approximate full charge | Planning point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Our PowerCell 8 | 12.8 V / 7,500 mAh / 96 Wh | About 50 minutes high-current hardwired; about 100 minutes socket setting | Match current setting, camera cable and daily recharge opportunity |
| Original BlackVue B-130X | 12.8 V / 7,500 mAh / 96 Wh | About 50 minutes hardwired; about 90 minutes socket | The 30-hour reference uses a 3 W single camera, not this whole shortlist |
Parking-camera questions
Can I use U3000 RADAR and CONNECTED together?
CONNECTED is unavailable during RADAR parking mode. Decide whether lower-power wake-up recording or supported remote access is more important for that parking period, then choose the operating mode and supply accordingly.
Will a camera or battery cover every overnight incident?
No fixed runtime or detection setting guarantees that. Available power, activity, temperature, camera load and mode affect coverage. Plan the parking period and recharge routine, and check saved clips after setup.
Does the A229 Pro Duo include an interior camera?
The Duo recommendation here has front and rear cameras. The three-channel configuration adds a separate interior camera. Compare the exact kit and power connection if you need cabin coverage.
Can an original DR970X Plus use 1TB?
BlackVue’s July 2025 v2.002 release explicitly describes 1TB support for the named original Plus. Confirm the correct firmware and compatible card. Do not treat that update as evidence that the camera is a Plus II or that every earlier model supports the same card.
Will any battery pack enable VIOFO parking mode?
No. The camera needs the correct output voltage, cable and parking-signal arrangement. The HK4 is the relevant conventional hardwire setup for the A229 Pro; a battery connection must support the required signal rather than merely supplying power.
What should I compare before ordering?
Start with front/rear or cabin coverage, recording behaviour and remote-access needs. Then check the exact camera and kit, vehicle power connection, daily driving time and compatible storage. Ask us to review those choices together.
