VIOFO CPL Filters

the filter is good to reduce light glare but i feel after installed the filter when filming in the dusk the edges of frame become a bit darker then before, should i just increase the ev value or any adjust i can do? thanks.

I haven't used the camera without the cpl filter so I can't comment on the video quality with and without it.
What I can comment on was the second to none customer service I received. Pre and post sale services were excellent. I can't thank Zaid and staff enough for their help with the purchase and solving my issue with the "add a fuse" plugs. I mentioned the issue on a Tuesday evening and by Thursday afternoon I had the replacement cables in my hands. I strongly recommend BlackBoxMyCar for their products/product knowledge and terrific staff.

The CPL filters are easy to install and make a world of difference when the sun is shining directly into the camera. Well worth the extra expense.

Viofo CPL filters work great they make a Hugh difference with the Sun glare I am very happy I purchased them.They are a must have,I installed these filters in both my vehicles.

I keep getting asked for a review. Having done photography for decades I know what a difference a CPL can make in exposure quality. (I have not looked at any camera footage from my unit as yet and I assume that the filter is filtering just fine.)

When I bought my Viofo A329S, I realized the filter came with it and I ordered another one thinking it was a filter for the rear camera. Regardless, the one that came with the camera it shows a lot of "rainbow" even though both marks are lined up. I've tried spinning it to see if it would lessen which it did not do, so I have removed it allowing for a clearer video.

First thought is that it does not screw on, merely pushes into place over the lens...does not seem very secure :
Secondly, it does NOT cut out as many windshield reflections as I hoped it would.

For me a CPL is a "must have" to aid in reducing glare & reflections. If there's an option to purchase, I will not use a dash cam w/o one now. The CPL for the A229 Plus's front camera is a super easy install, line-up to two white lines and you are done. Rear camera CPL takes a bit more patience since is uses adhesive to retain. Either way, both do a great job at reducing the glare & reflections. Highly recommend!

I've been using this filter on my A119V3 for a couple of years. I just picked up another one when I purchased an A119 Mini 2 with the updated Starvis 2 sensor. The filter clips on easily and works great, especially with glare and shooting into the sun. Would highly recommend.

The truck was showing the dashboard and making the image dull. This cleared up the reflection and made the image better.

VIOFO CPL Filter (A118C2/A119/A119S/A129)

These did not fit on either my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee or my wife's 2005 F150 rear cameras because with the filter on I could not put the camera at the correct angle because the filter was hitting the glass.

I bought one and mounted it to the front camera in our car (we have the A129 duo). It reduced the reflections of the windshield and the videos look more vivid, but now the video is blurry. Towards the center of the video, it looks good, but it starts to degrade quickly as you approach the edges of the screen. I think I read somewhere once about someone needing to adjust it, which I’m trying to find that post. I also read once that it’s an effect of using one of these on a wide angle lens. Maybe I just didn’t get it installed good (it was night when I put it on). I’ll continue my research and see what I can find out.

I purchased the CPL for two reason: to reduce or eliminate refections of the dashboard in the video and to improve the image quality in terms of contrast and saturation of colours. To test this I took a short drive with the CPL attached and where , over the course of the drive, the sun would be in all directions. I then repeated that drive without the CPL. I can say with 100% confidence that the CPL either eliminated or significantly reduced the reflections of the dashboard in the video. Also, it reduced the amount of glare and so increased the contrast and colour saturation. This general improvement in image quality was dependent on the direction of the sun but was noticeable at all times. With the dashcam having such a wide field of view the polarizing effect on the sky as not uniform from left to right across the sky but this was only noticeable if you looked for it and is a known issue with polarizing filters on wide angle lenses.

I had the dash cams & external battery installed by Car Toys at the recommendation of my dealership (I drive a 2020 Subaru Forester). The guys at CT did great work, all the wires are neatly tucked away and the camera's placement doesn't interfere with my Forester's Eyesight system.

The adhesive that comes with the cameras is excellent for mounting to glass, but my rear camera is mounted to a textured interior panel and the adhesive didn't hold to it for very long. It fell off after less than day. I slapped on some double sided mounting tape about 2 weeks ago and haven't had any trouble since.

So far the camera works great and does everything as advertised. I am noticing that it somewhat regularly locks files on its own so I'm having to reformat the card every other week when it runs low on "unlocked" files that it can overwrite.

The app is pretty sweet overall. It makes changing the cameras' settings a breeze and I can check their orientations very easily with it. I did have some issues with the app not letting me download video files to my camera, which magically fixed itself after I restarted the camera. The new problem now is the app will give me an error when I try to turn off the camera's recording in order to change the settings. It's not a big deal though, I can still manually end the recording at the camera itself and then the app lets me into the settings menu.

Overall I'm totally happy with this purchase!

I purchased the Viofo A129 Pro Duo with the Cellink Neo battery and HK3 ACC Hardwire kit, including an extra CPL filter for the rear camera. The video quality of the cameras are quite good. I've had four others made by Rexing and the Vantrue X1 and X3. The feel of these cameras are substantial, feels well made compared to others I've had and the mounts really hold. The CPL filters also appear to be made from quality materials and the wiring harnesses are excellent.

One of the features that I really wanted to take advantage of was the Auto Event Detection, while in parking mode. This feature buffers several seconds of video in memory ahead of an event so that when something does happen, it commits what is in memory to the microSD card and you don't lose the initial impact of the event. Otherwise, when nothing is happening, the camera is always watching but it is not writing to the microSD card. A great feature, but it does not work if you use the included GPS mount...what? So you have to decide, do you want GPS data or do you want Auto Event Detection; you can't have both!

I have sent a request to the support team to see if they can submit this as a future feature enhancement through a firmware update. I hope they can make that work, but for now this is why I can't give this a five star review.

I ordered four Viofo A119 with four CPL. Unfortunately I was charged $25 each for the filters even though the cost on the website is $20.
