I wanted to write a little longer review since most of the ones I have seen so far are one to two lines. I have had the camera for a few weeks after a hickup with Fedex. The blackboxmycar team was quick to respond and help with that issue. The customer service is why this is the 4th or 5th dash cam I have purchased from this site. Up until now I have stuck with blackvue.
As to the dashcam itself most of what I have to compare with is the blackvue cameras I have owned so keep this in mind:
Pros:
Camera install went well. The camera wire was long enough for my Camry to get to the rear windshield. Took about an hour but most of that time was removing the old camera and prepping/cleaning the area where the cameras would be installed. I took my time to try and get the cleanest install without wires everywhere. The app was great for aligning the camera right where it needs to be. The camera worked well from the start. It starts up immediately and shuts down just as fast when I turn the key off (my DC outlet does not stay on all the time, which is fine for me). I opted for now to not install the hardwire kit, although that was included which I liked. The footage is very clear and unlike the blackvue I replaced, there is no buggy program to view the footage. There are just folders with video files. I had no issue playing back the video without any special programs not already on Windows. The best part about this camera is definitely the quality of the video footage itself. The picture is crystal clear. I played it back on my 4k tv (using it as a wireless display) and it looks like real 4k images. No issue reading plates, making out street signs, or seeing faces of people I pass. Definitely will come in handy in the event of an accident or incident where the footage is needed later. Also a plus over blackvue is that there is nothing to remove to get the micro sd card out. You have to unplug a wire on the blackvue and pop off a side cover. On the thinkware it is right there on the right side. I used a Samsung 128gb micro sd. So far, no issues there. The app works pretty well, and the download speed over the wifi is very quick. You may have to go into your wifi settings to get connected. I recommend either turning the wifi on your phone off when in the vehicle or telling your phone not to auto-connect to the camera wifi if you plan to stream music while driving.
Cons:
The voice feature is very long and very loud. Despite adjusting it to the lowest volume setting, I found this quite annoying to tell me everything the camera is doing. "Connecting to wifi. Connecting to GPS, Starting Recording..." Just tell me that it is recording. That's all I need to know. I turned it off. I did not turn on any of the other features like lane departure and forward collision warning because of the various reviews saying this is annoying as well. Finally, I bought a camera with GPS in it. Although this does track your speed, it is very tiny at the bottom left corner and I have not found a way to increase the size. There is an option to turn it off if you don't want it or to change between MPH and KPH. I think this is something thinkware could probably adjust in a software update in the future.
Overall- despite a few downsides I do recommend this camera. The video quality alone makes it worth the 5 stars and the price tag.
