The FineVu GX300 is not a new FineVu release. FineVu launched the GX300 in 2021, making it an older FineVu model than the GX33. While the GX300 comes with many of the FineVu features we loved in the GX33, including Smart Time Lapse, HDR and Auto Night Vision, ADAS, and Safety Camera Alerts, it lacks some of the newer features like AI Damage 2.0 and Power Saving Parking Mode.
The GX300 also comes with a 3-year manufacturer warranty, which is the best you would find from any manufacturer.

Here’s what you will find inside the box when you purchase the FineVu GX300 from BlackboxMyCar:
Unlike the 2K QHD dash cams from Nextbase, Thinkware, or VIOFO, the FineVu GX300 is only available in the 2-Channel version. However, you can always leave out the rear-facing camera if you only want to capture the road ahead - it doesn’t change any of the core functions of the dash cam.
The front and rear cameras are made of the same material, ABS plastic, and both only come in black. It’s quite a simple design, with a flexible mounting bracket that can accommodate different mounting angles and preferences.
The front camera features the signature FineVu power switch that doubles as a microSD lock to prevent the removal of the microSD card from the front camera while the dash cam is still recording. The audio/volume, REC, and WiFi buttons are on the back of the front camera. If you press the REC button, a 20-second file (10-seconds before and 10-seconds after) is saved separately in the emergency folder for easy management.
And just like the GX33, the FineVu GX300 does not come with a built-in screen. To playback footage, you will need to download the FineVu smartphone app (available for both iOS and Android) or the FineVu Desktop Player, just like you would for Thinkware and BlackVue dash cams.
The FineVu GX300 front-facing camera is equipped with the 5.14MP Sony STARVIS IMX335 image sensor to deliver great 2K QHD video captures of the road ahead at a 122° angle. Hence, you get the best coverage with minimal distortion. The rear camera is fitted with the 2MP SOI F37 image sensor to bring 1080p Full HD recordings of the traffic behind at a 134° field of view.
The GX300 comes with HDR and Auto Night Vision to provide optimal video quality. HDR is a function that displays objects clearly by automatically combining two videos with different luminance settings. HDR is handy as it allows you to record clear videos even when luminances vary rapidly, like at night, in very bright daylight, or other light conditions or situations with high contrast differences. And working behind the scenes to ensure all these technologies are working efficiently without glitches is the high-performance Allwinner V536 Dual Core processor. Allwinner is generally known for lower-end hardware, but the V536 is one of their top-performing processors, and it supports WDR, noise reduction, and other image enhancement algorithms.
The overall image quality is not as sharp as the 2K QHD lineup from Thinkware, but you will still be able to pick up crucial details with the FineVu GX300. You also get a good level of visibility. Of course, the quality of the recording may vary - the speed you're traveling at, windshield conditions, and many other factors.
Just like the GX33, the FineVu GX300 also comes with a Samsung Pro Endurance 32GB microSD card inside the box. A 32GB micro SD card can hold up to 193 minutes in standard recording mode. The GX300 supports microSD cards of up to 128 GB, and loop recording ensures that the oldest files are overwritten first when the microSD card is full, so you don’t have to worry about losing any new, unwatched files.
You also have the Smart Time Lapse - an intermittent recording mode in which the camera takes snapshots at consistent intervals and reproduces them at a normal speed. If an event is detected, the dash cam will resume standard recording at 30FPS. In Smart Time Lapse mode, you can record up to 1,134 minutes without overwriting. In contrast, in normal recording mode, you can only record 193 minutes before overwriting kicks in - and best of all, Smart Time Lapse mode is available in both driving and parking modes.
Using the FineVu hardwiring kit (or a dash cam battery pack like the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8 or Cellink NEO), the GX300 offers different parking recording options: motion with impact detection, standard Time-Lapse (15FPS) and Smart Time Lapse.
One thing to note, if you choose Motion Detection, impact recordings are buffered - meaning you will get 10 seconds of pre-trigger in addition to after-trigger footage. You can customize the motion detection and G-sensor impact sensitivity levels in the dash cam’s settings menu. For other parking recording modes, a 30FPS after-trigger recording will be saved.
When you re-enter the car from parking mode, a voice notification lets you know how many impacts were detected in parking mode (if any). A Parking Mode Summary will be available via the FineVu mobile app.
The FineVu GX300 is designed for hot and cold weather. The built-in high temperature protection feature protects the GX300 and the video files saved on the microSD card. When the ambient air temperature exceeds the maximum operating temperature, the GX300 will automatically turn off to prevent overheating.
The GX300 also comes with an auto-voltage cutoff. If the car battery drops below a preset level, the dash cam will automatically shut down to prevent over-drainage, which is especially handy in cold winter. You can customize the cutoff voltage according to your vehicle type and battery.
Like the FineVu GX33, the GX300 has a suite of safety features, including an Advanced Driver Assitance System (ADAS), Speed Camera Alert, and Driving Rest Guide.
Unlike the GX33, the GX300 only comes with Front Vehicle Motion Detection (FVMA) - the GX300 can send you an audible alert if your car is stopped at the light and the vehicle in front of you has started to move. This alert helps you stay focused on the road in case you are momentarily distracted. The GX300 doesn't offer Lane Departure Warning alerts
.The Speed Camera Alert is a built-in feature that offers voice alerts on seven types of traffic cameras, including speed cameras and red light cameras. Because GPS is built into the GX300, you don’t need to hook up any external GPS modules. The speed camera alert is a quarterly-updated service, so you will need to download the latest update every quarter. The Speed Camera function varies by region.
Another safety feature offered is the Driving Rest Guide. What it does is it keeps track of your driving time and distance and sends you reminders of when you need to take a break from driving.
Installing the FineVu GX300 is relatively straightforward, and because of its compact size, you can easily hide it behind the rearview mirror.
When mounting the camera on your windshield, we recommend connecting the dash cam to the WiFi app first so you can use the Installation Angle Guide in the app to help you adjust the camera angle. You can also use it to help find the best recording angles for a car, SUV, or truck.
FineVu uses a 3-wire hardwiring cable, so when running the power cord to the fuse panel, you will need to find a suitable ignition-based fuse, a constant fuse, and a good ground bolt. We recommend getting the BlackboxMyCar Essential Install kit, as it comes with a circuit tester that would surely come in handy.
FineVu also has a 12V power cable that you can purchase separately, allowing a simple plug-and-play solution using your car's cigarette lighter socket. But keep in mind that you won't be able to use the dash cam's parking mode features with this setup.
If you want to use parking mode but don't want to go with a hardwire installation, the alternative option is to use a dedicated dash cam battery pack, like the BlackboxMyCar PowerCell 8.
You can download the FineVu Player from the FineVu website. The desktop player supports both Mac and Windows. You can playback videos, create screenshots, and update the firmware. A lot of the settings control needs to be done via the FineVu app, downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Before you connect the FineVu GX300 to your smartphone, you must ensure WiFi is switched on on your smartphone and the camera, which you can do using the WiFi button on the backside. Once the app and the dash cam are connected, you can see a live view of the dash cam along with other functions. The default FineVu Wi-Fi password is "12345678".
On the main screen, you will also see the Event Summary function - essentially a summary of all the events captured during a driving period. You will see all information in one view: driving time, distance traveled, average speed, and the number of events recorded during the selected period. It will also give you a list of the videos if any footage was captured.
The FineVu GX30 is a fantastic starter dash cam. It has many features that most dash cam users look for: 1080p Full HD video quality, built-in WiFi, built-in GPS, compact design, buffered parking mode, and front and rear cameras (dual dashcam). It doesn't come with a screen so you will need to use the FineVu mobile app.
The FineVu GX300 is essentially an upgraded version of the GX30. The rear cameras are identical; the only difference is in the front cameras and the processor. The GX300 comes with a 5.1MP image sensor and a higher-performing processor, allowing it to deliver that 2K QHD video quality edge, especially when picking up finer details.
The FineVu GX33 is a newer model, and it is FineVu's most cost-effective, screenless WiFi dash cam while delivering reliability and decent Full HD video quality. It offers some of FineVu’s latest features, including AI Damage and Power Saving Parking Mode.
Many options are available if you are in the market for a user-friendly 2K QHD dash cam, including the Thinkware Q800Pro, the VIOFO A129 Plus, and A119 V3, the Nextbase 422GW and 522GW, and all of these are at the same price point and offer more or less the same essential features.
If you are looking for a first dashcam that offers both front and back footage when driving and a practical solution to maximize memory and storage space, the FineVu GX300 is a good investment. While it comes with many features in the Thinkware Q800PRO, one that stands out is Smart Time Lapse recording, which allows you to save up to five times more footage before overwriting kicks in.
