Thinkware Exterior Side View Camera: Full HD Side Recording

Record a side view with this low-profile exterior accessory for compatible Thinkware dash cams. The camera captures Full HD 1080p at 30FPS with a 129° diagonal view and an IP68-rated enclosure.

The package includes one camera with a 1.5m lead and a 3m connecting cable. A compatible front dash cam records and stores the footage. Choose the mounting side and measure the cable route before ordering.

Choose the side view and cable route your vehicle needs

This camera can mount on either side of the vehicle to record activity alongside it. Follow Thinkware’s installation guide to configure the mounting side before routing the cable, then check the angle in Live View. The standard side-camera cable is configured for the left side; the guide specifies a cable modification for a right-side installation.

A supported Thinkware Q200 or another listed host records the camera feed. For left and right side views together, use two cameras with a compatible Thinkware Multiplexer and matching cables. The multiplexer combines additional views into a composite recording, while the front camera records separately.

The supplied camera lead is 1.5m and the connecting cable is 3m. Thinkware does not recommend this side camera for vehicles larger than cargo vans. For a larger installation or infrared illumination, compare the Exterior Infrared Camera and its longer cable package.

Does the package contain a pair of cameras?

No. It contains one side-view camera, its 1.5m lead, a 3m connecting cable and an installation guide. Order two cameras if you want left and right views, and plan the required Multiplexer setup.

Can I mount it on either side?

Yes. Thinkware describes mounting on either side of the vehicle. Check the framing and orientation before securing the camera and routing its cable.

Which Thinkware dash cams support it?

Thinkware lists U1000 Plus, Q850, Q200, F200 PRO, F790, X800 and X700. Match the connection and any necessary adapter to the exact host model; it is not a universal camera input.

Do I need a Multiplexer?

A single accessory view can use a supported front-camera connection. Recording left and right side views together, or several additional camera views, requires the compatible Multiplexer and its cables. Check existing rear-camera use when planning the system.

Can it record by itself?

No. It sends video to a compatible Thinkware front dash cam. It has no independent recording or storage system.

Does it eliminate blind spots or warn me before a collision?

No. It records the area within its field of view. Camera position and obstructions affect coverage, and this accessory is not an active blind-spot warning system.

Is it suitable for a large truck or motorhome?

Thinkware does not recommend this side camera for vehicles larger than cargo vans. The Exterior Infrared Camera is the manufacturer's suggested alternative for larger vehicles; check its mounting and cable requirements.

How long are the included cables?

The camera has a 1.5m lead, approximately 4.9ft, and includes a separate 3m connecting cable, approximately 9.8ft. Measure the actual installation route, including bends and entry points.

Is it made for outside mounting?

Yes. The enclosure is rated IP68 for exterior use. Follow the installation instructions for mounting and cable connections; the rating does not remove the need for a properly installed connection.

Does this side camera have infrared lighting?

Infrared illumination is not specified for this model. If you need an exterior camera with infrared lights, compare the separate Thinkware Exterior Infrared Camera.
