Thinkware Exterior Infrared Camera: Full HD Outdoor Recording

Add an exterior view to a supported Thinkware dash cam with this 1080p infrared camera. It records at 30FPS, has a 126° diagonal view and uses 940nm infrared illumination to help capture nearby detail in low light.

The IP68-rated enclosure and long cable package suit RVs, commercial vehicles and other installations where the camera needs to sit outside. The box contains one camera with a 2m lead and a separate 20m connecting cable; recording and storage are handled by the compatible front dash cam.

Plan the exterior view and recording connection

Choose a mounting position with a clear view and a protected cable route. The camera records colour footage during the day; infrared illumination helps show nearby surroundings after dark. Distance, dirt, reflective surfaces and obstructions affect the result. Check a saved recording before securing the final angle.

A compatible Thinkware Q200 or another listed host records the camera feed. A direct accessory connection uses the host’s extra-camera input. To retain several rear, cabin or side views at once, plan a supported Thinkware Multiplexer system with its matching cables. Additional Multiplexer views share a composite recording, while the front view is recorded separately.

Thinkware lists Q200, F200 PRO, F790, X800 and X700, plus U1000 Plus and Q850 with the matching adapter. The supplied camera lead is 2m, approximately 6.6ft, and the connecting cable is 20m, approximately 65.6ft. Measure the actual route and leave room for moving doors or a hatch.

The enclosure rating does not replace proper mounting and connection protection. Follow the included installation guide, secure the cables and keep them clear of moving or hot components.

Can this camera record by itself?

No. It sends video to a compatible Thinkware front dash cam, which records and stores the footage. It is not a standalone Wi-Fi camera.

Which Thinkware dash cams support it?

Thinkware lists Q200, F200 PRO, F790, X800 and X700, with U1000 Plus and Q850 supported through the matching adapter. Match the camera connection and cable to the exact host.

Do I always need a Multiplexer?

A single accessory view can use a supported front-camera connection. To record several additional rear, side or cabin views at once, use a compatible Thinkware Multiplexer and its required cables. Check whether the host’s extra-camera input is already used.

Does the Multiplexer save each camera separately?

No. Additional camera views are combined into one video file. The main front dash cam’s video is saved separately.

Does it work in darkness?

Its 940nm infrared light illuminates nearby surroundings for low-light recording. Results depend on distance, mounting angle, reflective surfaces and obstructions; it does not guarantee detail at any distance.

Is the camera suitable for outside mounting?

Yes. Its enclosure is rated IP68. Follow the installation guide for mounting and cable connections, and keep the lens clean.

How long are the included cables?

The camera has a 2m lead, approximately 6.6ft, and includes a separate 20m connecting cable, approximately 65.6ft. Measure the intended route before installation.

Is a front dash cam included?

No. The package contains one exterior camera with its 2m lead, a 20m connecting cable, three screws and an installation guide. The front dash cam and Multiplexer are sold separately.

Can I use it as an active reversing or collision-warning system?

This is a recording accessory. It is not specified as an active reversing display, parking sensor or collision-warning device.

What operating temperatures are supported?

Thinkware specifies −10°C to 60°C, equivalent to 14°F to 140°F. Its storage range is −20°C to 70°C, or −4°F to 158°F.
