Garmin Dash Cam X310 4K HDR Touchscreen GPS

We recommend the Garmin Dash Cam X310 if you want 4K front-road recording, touch controls and a removable magnetic mount. It records 4K at 30FPS with HDR, with a 140° lens and built-in Clarity polarizer to reduce windshield reflections. GPS adds speed and location context to saved clips. The 2.41-inch touchscreen handles setup and playback.

Choose the X310 for 4K recording, touch controls and a removable magnetic camera mount. At 1080p, it also offers a separate 120FPS mode without HDR.

Choose resolution or faster motion

The X310 records 3840 × 2160 video at 30FPS with HDR. For smoother motion at a lower resolution, select 1920 × 1080 at 120FPS; that mode does not include HDR. A third option records 1080p at 30FPS with HDR.

4K can preserve more image detail than 1080p, but lighting, movement, distance and windshield condition still affect what you can read. Save an original clip to a compatible computer or phone when reviewing detail.

Glare reduction built into the lens

The integrated Garmin Clarity polarizer helps reduce dashboard reflections in the windshield. It is included in the camera, so a separate clip-on CPL filter is not required.

Aim the lens through a clear area swept by the wipers. Keep the windshield and lens clean, and review a test clip after installation. HDR helps balance bright and dark parts of a scene; it is available in the two 30FPS recording modes.

Review footage on the touchscreen

Use the 2.41-inch colour touchscreen to change settings, check alignment and play saved clips. The display is 480 × 272 pixels; recorded 4K video has much more detail than the small preview screen can show.

The Garmin Drive app also lets you review and export clips on a compatible phone. Local recording to the card does not require a Vault subscription. X310 files use HEVC (H.265), so the device or player used for full-resolution playback must support that format.

Save incidents and monitor while parked

With a card installed and power connected, the camera records automatically. Incident detection saves a clip covering 15 seconds before and after the event. GPS and Galileo provide location context, and the video overlay can show speed, date and time. Export important clips rather than relying on the card as permanent storage.

Parking Guard can save detected incidents locally. Remote phone alerts require Wi-Fi and a paid Vault subscription. The 15-second pre-incident parking recording option needs external power. For longer monitoring, use suitable constant power; the internal battery is rated for up to 20 minutes.

Driver alerts and voice commands

Forward-collision and lane-departure warnings operate above 65km/h and depend on visibility, road markings and camera alignment. The Go alert indicates when stopped traffic starts moving. Regional red-light and speed-camera information may require a subscription. These alerts do not control the vehicle.

Voice commands can save video, switch audio on or off, and control Travelapse. Travelapse records trip highlights alongside regular footage, unless the Promptly Delete setting is enabled.

The Garmin Drive app can organise synchronised footage from up to four compatible Garmin cameras, each sold and powered separately. Remote Live View and Vault uploads require a paid Vault plan and an active Wi-Fi connection. Neither X model has built-in LTE.

Choose the setup that fits your vehicle

The Garmin Dash Cam X110 offers 1080p HDR, physical controls and an adhesive mount in the same-sized body. Choose it if those features meet your needs; choose the X310 for 4K, a touchscreen and magnetic mounting. See our Garmin X110 and X310 comparison for the differences.

Use the included power adapter for normal driving. For parked use, check Garmin’s compatible Constant Power Cable or USB-C Parking Mode Cable before choosing a power solution. A generic hardwire kit or rear-camera cable is not automatically compatible.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this package record?

One forward view of the road. It includes a single X310 camera, not a rear or cabin camera. Garmin Drive can synchronise clips from additional compatible Garmin cameras, but each camera needs its own power and memory card.

Does the X310 record 4K at 120FPS?

No. The X310’s 4K mode is 30FPS with HDR. Its 120FPS mode is 1080p without HDR. It also offers 1080p at 30FPS with HDR.

What is different about the X110?

The Garmin X110 records 1080p HDR, uses physical buttons and includes an adhesive mount. The X310 adds 4K, touch controls and magnetic mounting.

Do I need to buy a memory card?

Yes. Use an 8 to 512GB microSDHC or microSDXC card rated Class 10 or faster, and check Garmin’s recommended-card guidance. Format it in the camera using exFAT. Back up important footage first because formatting erases the card.

Does ordinary driving recording need a subscription?

Driving footage records to the memory card without a Vault plan. Paid Vault and an internet-connected Wi-Fi network are needed for remote connected features and cloud storage. The card is sold separately.

Can Parking Guard work without Wi-Fi?

Local incident recording can work without Wi-Fi when Parking Guard is enabled and the camera has power. Remote smartphone alerts need an active Wi-Fi connection and a paid Vault subscription. The pre-incident recording option requires external power.

Can I watch a live view from anywhere?

Remote Live View needs Garmin Drive, a paid Vault subscription, camera power and an internet-connected Wi-Fi network. The X310 has no built-in LTE. A vehicle hotspot and its service are separate.

How do I power it while parked?

For parked recording, use Garmin's compatible Constant Power Cable or USB-C Parking Mode Cable and follow its instructions. The included driving adapter is not a hardwire kit. The internal battery is rated for up to 20 minutes, so plan an external supply for overnight use.

Is a separate polarizing filter required?

No. The Garmin Clarity polarizer is built in. It reduces windshield reflections, but it cannot remove every reflection or guarantee readable number plates in every condition.

Can I remove the camera from the mount?

Yes. The X310 uses a magnetic connection between the camera mount and an adhesive plate on the windshield. Check alignment after refitting it. The adhesive plate itself is intended to stay on the glass.

What do the voice commands do?

Supported commands save a video, start or stop audio recording, and start or stop Travelapse. English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Swedish are supported. Wait for the confirmation tone; cabin noise can affect recognition.

Does Travelapse replace normal recording?

No. It makes a fast-motion trip video while normal dash-cam footage continues. Travelapse is unavailable when Promptly Delete is enabled. Save important original clips separately.

What happens when an incident is detected?

The camera saves a clip containing 15 seconds before and after the event. You can also save manually. Unsaved loop footage is overwritten when its allotted space fills; transfer important recordings to a phone or computer.

Will it warn me about every collision or lane departure?

No. These camera-based alerts depend on visibility, lane markings, alignment and speed. Forward-collision and lane-departure warnings operate above 65km/h. They do not brake or steer, and red-light/speed-camera coverage varies by region.

Can I connect the included cable to a computer?

The supplied 13ft cable is for power only. Use a compatible USB-C data cable or a card reader to transfer files. X310 recordings use HEVC/H.265 MP4, so your player must support that codec.

How should I update and maintain the camera?

Check for updates in Garmin Drive or use Garmin Express. Recording pauses during a software update. Garmin recommends formatting the card at least every six months; back up saved clips first, and replace a card if it becomes unreliable.
