FAQ

What is Parking Mode?

Parking mode is offered on most of the dash cams available at BlackboxMyCar. While it is important to protect your vehicle while driving, it is just as important to have your vehicle protected while it is parked. When the dash cam is in parking mode, footage will only be saved when there is an impact and/or motion. Parking mode can be enabled with a hardwiring kit or a battery pack.

For more information on parking mode, click here.

What is a Hardwire Kit?

A hardwiring kit enables parking mode. It allows your dash cam to remain powered on even when the vehicle's ignition is turned off. Installation is a breeze as you will only need to find an accessory fuse, constant fuse, and a grounding point.

What is a Battery Pack?

Most customers purchase the battery pack to avoid using the vehicle’s battery to power their dash cam. The battery pack is charged by either being hardwired into an accessory fuse or by being plugged into one of the vehicle's 12-volt cigarette sockets. We recommend the hardwiring the battery pack as it charges the battery pack quicker.

How much footage will my memory card store?

On average, a 2-channel dash cam writes 16GB/hour and a 1-channel dash cam writes about 8GB/hour.

Do I need a Rear Camera?

Accidents or events don't always happen at the front of the vehicle! Having a rear camera provides coverage for any events or accidents that may happen at the rear of the vehicle.

Do I need a IR Rear Camera?

An IR camera is designed to record the interior of the vehicle in low light conditions. This option is very popular among rideshare drivers.

What is a CPL filter?

A CPL filter attaches to the dash cam lens to eliminate lens flares, light reflections, and windshield glares.

I'm impressed

Purchased for a Thinkware F800PRO and immediately noticed a reduction in sun/dashboard glare. Simple to install. Shipping to Montreal area was very quick as well. I would recommend this product given its quality and price tag.

Disappointed with filter because I expected a threaded filter like on any SLR camera and received...

I would suggest that you add filters to your choices when ordering a new dashcam. In my case, I bought and installed a F800 PRO in my car and later on decided to get the CPL filter. Expecting a threaded kind only to find the complete opposite was a major disappointment because it's almost impossible to install a filter on a Thinkware dash cam unless you remove the dash cam completely from the windshield and of course I don't have an extra mounting tape. BlackVue mounts are completely different because you can easily remove the camera or rotate it 180 degrees to attach the filter. While i was installing the filter I got my fingers on the sticky side and now it won't attach. Do you have an instant fix a solution where I add a sticky cement to my filter? So do I get a refund or an exchange on the filter from order 10089CA or what? Because I bought the rear camera as well, would it be advisable to have a CPL filter for it as well? I'm kind of disappointed about the flimsy filter on such an expensive dash cam. Wish that the CPL filter features and benefits were made more easily available so people like me were more educated and that means that the filter should be a necessity and sold with each new camera. Help, can you solve my issue??
Ted

PS I would have given the CPL filter a 1 star but my previous customer care which was great, allowed me to bump it up to a 2 star. I like your company

Hi Ted, thanks for taking the time to leave your review and we're sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the CPL filter that you received. Please be advised that Thinkware cameras can be removed from their adhesive mounts by sliding the camera to the right (away from the lens). The camera will come loose from the windshield mount and will make installation of the filter much easier. There should be a really thin protective film that will be removable to expose the adhesive backing. I'm afraid we do not accept returns or exchanges on dashcam accessories as per our return policy, however, we will be able to offer a discount on a return purchase of another filter if this one is deemed completely unusable.
