Setting Up a BlackVue B-124X Ultra Battery Pack
Choose the charging input, connect the camera output and check your parking setup
Identify your battery and plan the connections
Start by checking the label on your pack. This guide covers the BlackVue B-124X Power Magic Ultra Battery. The original B-124 and the later B-130 models have their own instructions; do not transfer their switch settings or wiring steps to the B-124X.
The B-124X and B-124E are currently unlisted at BlackboxMyCar. This is a setup guide for existing owners. For current listings, browse our battery packs or BlackVue collection.
The B-124X has two separate power connections. The vehicle connects to DC in to charge the pack. Your dash cam connects to the Dashcam output to receive power. When the vehicle's charging supply switches off, the pack can continue powering a compatible camera for parking recording.
We'd choose the charging method before routing either cable. A vehicle-socket connection is the simpler option when the socket's behavior suits your installation. Hardwiring provides the faster charging rate specified for this pack, but requires the correct switched circuit, fuse tap and ground.

Choose the charging input

These are manufacturer charging estimates for the B-124X alone. They are not a timed test of your vehicle or a promise that every short drive will restore a depleted pack. Expansion batteries increase the charging time.
Connect the hardwired charging input
Use a qualified installer if you are unfamiliar with automotive electrical work. The B-124X manual gives the pack's wiring arrangement; your vehicle's manual and an electrical check determine the actual circuit, fuse type, tap orientation and safe cable route.
Put the battery's selector in OFF before installation. Connect the original BlackVue hardwire charging cable to the pack's DC in port.
Following the B-124X manual, identify a switched accessory fuse rated 10 A or less in the interior fuse panel. Confirm that it loses power when the vehicle is off. A constant-power BATT circuit can let the pack deplete the starter battery.
Use the correct fuse tap. The manual places the removed vehicle fuse in the slot nearest the tap's blades and a new 20 A auxiliary fuse in the farther slot. These are two different fuse roles; the 20 A auxiliary fuse does not mean choosing a 20 A vehicle circuit. For a low-profile mini original, the manual specifies a 10 A mini-type replacement.
Crimp the cable's ACC lead securely into the tap connector. Install the tap in the orientation shown in the manual so the added load does not pass through the original fuse. Attach the ground ring to a secure ground point on bare vehicle-frame metal.
After checking the installation, select Hardwire. Secure the pack and route its cables clear of pedals, moving parts and airbag deployment areas.

Connect through a vehicle power socket
With the pack switched OFF, plug the original cigarette-plug charging cable into DC in and connect its other end directly to the vehicle's power socket. Set the selector to Cigarette. Do not select Hardwire when using this input cable; the manual warns that the mismatch can cause overheating or product failure.
Check what the socket does after the vehicle is switched off. Some sockets stay powered. If yours remains live, the battery can continue taking power from the vehicle. Unplug that input when parked or arrange a suitable switched supply; do not assume the B-124X will protect the starter battery with a vehicle-voltage cutoff.
Use the original charging cable without a multi-socket splitter. Keep the battery away from direct sunlight and heat, and fasten it securely. A location pictured in another vehicle is not proof that it is suitable in yours.
Connect the dashcam output
The female cigarette-lighter socket shown here belongs to the battery pack's output cable. Plug that cable into the port marked Dashcam, then plug the camera's appropriate power plug into the female socket. The charging cables shown above connect the battery to the vehicle; they are not the camera output cable.
The B-124X's Dashcam output is rated 11 to 14.2 V, up to 2 A. Confirm the exact camera's power requirements, connector and polarity, the original output cable and any parking-mode signaling it needs. The fact that a plug fits does not establish compatibility.
BlackVue's accessory compatibility matrix identifies CS-124 as an output socket for the B-124/B-124X, with CL-124 and CH-124 charging-cable entries. Check the actual cable part number when replacing a missing cable.
For BlackVue, Thinkware, IROAD or another brand, make the same exact-model check. A battery supplying power does not by itself prove that the camera will enter parking mode correctly. Test that transition with the specified camera-and-cable setup before relying on it.
Understand charging time and parking runtime
The B-124X contains a 76.8 Wh LiFePO4 battery. BlackVue's manual estimates approximately 25 hours 35 minutes for one camera drawing 3 W. Your camera's draw, recording mode, extra channels, battery condition, temperature and starting charge affect the actual duration.
Use that 3 W example as a reference, rather than applying one runtime to every BlackVue, Thinkware or IROAD model. A higher-power camera can use the stored energy sooner. Check the power requirements of the complete camera setup, including any rear camera or additional load.
The specified 5 A and 9 A figures are charging currents for the two input methods. They are different from the maximum input-current ratings in the specifications. Choose the input method and matching selector position from the B-124X instructions, rather than using a higher current rating as a setting.
The manual lists separate temperature ranges: 0 to 45°C for charging, -10 to 60°C for discharging and -20 to 45°C for storage. The approximately 80°C internal protection cutoff is not an acceptable charging temperature. Stop using a swollen battery or one giving off an unusual odor, and contact support.
Check battery status over Bluetooth
Turn on the B-124X with the selector matching its input cable, then enable Bluetooth on your phone. BlackVue's current support instructions place battery access under BlackVue Battery on the app's main screen. Scan for the ID printed on your pack; B-124X IDs begin with 124X.
The older manual calls its companion software BlackVue Battery Manager. Use the current battery connection instructions for the app route. Checking battery status over Bluetooth is a separate task from a camera's recording or cloud connection.
The pack's red LED indicates charging, green indicates a full charge and blue indicates a Bluetooth connection. If you see a warning pattern, use the model's LED table rather than treating every flashing light as a pairing problem.
Adding a B-124E expansion battery
The B-124E connects to the B-124X's Expansion port using its connector cable. The manual specifies 84.5 Wh for one B-124E in addition to the B-124X's 76.8 Wh. This increases the energy available to the camera, but also takes longer to recharge.
After adding one B-124E, set the total capacity to 12,600 mAh in the battery-management app, following the model manual. The B-124X alone is 6,000 mAh; each additional expansion adds 6,600 mAh to the recommended setting.
For one fully charged B-124X plus one fully charged B-124E, the manual gives approximately 53 hours 45 minutes at a 3 W camera load. It lists charging estimates of 2 hours 30 minutes through a cigarette plug or 1 hour 20 minutes hardwired. These are conditional manufacturer examples, not a guaranteed recording period.

Common setup questions
Can I use the Hardwire setting with the cigarette-plug input?
No. Use Cigarette with the cigarette-plug charging cable. The B-124X manual warns that selecting Hardwire with this cable can cause overheating or product failure.
Does the B-124X automatically protect the starter battery?
Its internal battery protection is different from vehicle-side low-voltage cutoff. A live vehicle socket or constant BATT input can continue draining the starter battery. Confirm a suitable switched charging supply.
Is the output socket supplied with the dash cam?
In this setup, the female socket is part of the battery's dashcam output cable. The camera's power plug connects into it.
Will the same cable work with every camera?
No universal fit is established. Check the exact battery, camera and cable, including voltage, current, connector, polarity and parking-mode signaling.
How long does a B-124X take to charge?
The model manual gives approximately 80 minutes through its 5 A cigarette-plug method or 40 minutes through its 9 A hardwired method. Expansion packs increase the charging time.
Are these the instructions for the original B-124?
No. Check that the battery label says B-124X. The original B-124 has its own manual; do not apply this guide's installation details to a different model.
