BlackVue DR770X 2-CH vs. BlackVue DR590X 2-CH Dash Cam Review

The DR590X-2CH is BlackVue's entry-level full HD dash cam, offering 1080p video resolution at 30 frames per second for both its front and rear cameras. This dash cam features Sony's STARVIS CMOS sensor and Night Vision, which improves details in dark situations at a 139-degree field of view for the front, and 137-degrees for the rear camera.

Also delivering full HD in a two-channel system in a 139-degree field of view, the more recent BlackVue DR770X-2CH which also sports a 2.1 MP Sony STARVIS sensor for its front and rear cameras.

However, the difference is that the DR770X’s front is capable of recording full HD in 60 frames per second, resulting in smoother videos even at higher speeds. Despite the fact that the DR590X and DR770X capture full HD video in the same manner, BlackVue equipped the new DR770X with a SigmaStar CPU and ISP software tuning to improve video quality, specifically dynamic range, balance, and contrast.

Moreover, the DR770X does come with multiple recording options to improve video recording quality, highlighting an "Extreme" recording mode that increases the bit rate of the front camera to 25Mbps, higher compared to the DR590X’s maximum 12Mbps.

Both dash cams are compatible with CPL filters, and they work best with the BlackboxMyCar Aqua Shield that keeps your footage free from glare, reflections, and most importantly, rain droplets that could ruin your footage. This is a highly recommended accessory to keep your dash cam weatherproof.

In terms of design, both the BlackVue DR590X-2CH and DR770X-2CH are built screenless, like the rest of the BlackVue dash cams. With an all-black tube shape and adhesive mount, both dash cams keep their overall award-winning design simple and stealthy, allowing you to hide it right up behind your rear-view mirror. However, the DR770X-2CH is designed with more heat emission holes to keep your dash cam cooler and more efficient in heat dissipation.

Another improvement on the new DR770X is the proximity sensors. Proximity sensors are dash cam components that can detect the presence of nearby objects without making physical contact. These sensors can be triggered by hanging air fresheners or light rays that enter your car unintentionally due to sensitivity. The manual event recording trigger has been replaced by a new touch button, which provides more accurate detection and simplifies confirmation of event recording triggers.

BlackVue's dash cams, available in the DR590X and DR770X, have advanced parking modes to keep your vehicle secure in front and back. Thanks to their built-in G-sensor and advanced motion and impact-triggered recording, you can stay confident when leaving your car unattended on the streets, parking lot or even your own driveway. When recording, it also includes the few seconds preceding the triggering event, thanks to buffered recording.

Parking mode will only activate if the BlackVue dash cam is hardwire installed, which is included in both dash cams. In comparison to the DR590X, the DR770X is more advanced because it now has a built-in voltage monitor that extends the life of your battery. The BlackVue DR590X and DR770X both have Wi-Fi, making it easy to connect to the internet. The DR590X also has GPS, though it is an external unit that is only optional, as opposed to the DR770X, which has it built into the main unit.

Now, going to the major difference between the two full HD dash cams, the BlackVue DR590X is not yet Cloud-ready as it is an older and more basic dash cam. If you want to access the footage through your mobile, you can check it through the BlackVue App and BlackVue Viewer for your Mac or PC.

It is also compatible with the CM100G LTE module that serves as a Wi-Fi router - all you need is a Nano SIM card with an active data plan.
