BlackboxMyCar | Dash Cam Installation into a 2024 Acura Integra Type S x Thinkware U3000-2CH + PC8

In this guide, we'll walk you through the installation of the Thinkware U3000 Dual Channel, dash cam and the PowerCell 8 battery pack in a 2024 Acura Integra Type S. This guide will also apply to other Acura vehicles, hatchbacks, and many Hondas.

This high-performance compact sports hatchback sedan features a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, adaptive dampers, and Brembo brakes, making it a prime candidate for the advanced protection offered by the Thinkware U3000-2CH. This dash cam provides 4K UHD front recording and 2K QHD rear recording, along with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and parking surveillance modes. The PowerCell 8 battery pack ensures extended parking mode recording without draining the car’s battery, a crucial feature for performance vehicles like the Integra Type S.

Step 1: Dash Cam Placement and Mounting

First, decide on the placement for the front camera. In the Acura Integra Type S, the best spot is behind the rearview mirror on the passenger side. This location offers an optimal view while keeping the camera discreet. Use the Thinkware app to check the camera’s live view and adjust the angle for the best coverage and ADAS functionality. Clean the windshield thoroughly to ensure the adhesive sticks properly, then peel off the adhesive cover and press the camera firmly in place for about 30 seconds.

Step 2: Hardwiring to the Fusebox

Next, we’ll hardwire the system to the vehicle’s fusebox, located at the top of the driver’s side footwell. Start by running the hardwiring kit from the battery pack to the fusebox. Since we're wiring a battery pack, we only need an accessory connection rated between 20A and 30A. Use a circuit tester to identify the correct ACC connection and then use an add-a-fuse adapter to connect the hardwiring kit. For the 2024 Acura Integra Type S, low-profile fuse taps are used.

Secure the PowerCell 8 under the driver's seat using the included Velcro adhesives, ensuring it doesn't interfere with the seat's functions.

Step 3: Wiring the Front Camera

With power going to the battery pack, connect the cable to the front dash cam using the spliced Thinkware hardwire kit. Remove the footwell side panelling to route the cable underneath and up the vehicle’s frame to the A-pillar. To avoid safety hazards, remove the A-pillar and run the cable behind or around the airbag. Once at the top, tuck the cable along the windshield’s headliner, ensuring a clean and professional look. Finally, connect the cable to the camera.

Step 4: Wiring the Rear Camera

For the rear camera, follow the headliner from the front windshield to the passenger side A-pillar, then along the trim to the rear, past the A, B, and C pillars. For the Integra's hatchback rear window, run the cable through the side tubing to get to the rear window. This involves removing some panelling on the hatchback and loosening an entry point in the headliner. Secure the rear camera cable with cable clips and zip ties to existing wiring. Position the rear camera high and center on the rear window for the best view, ensuring it doesn’t interfere with the defroster lines. Clean the area, remove the adhesive backing, and press the camera firmly into place.

Step 5: Final Steps

With both cameras mounted and all cables routed, tidy up any excess cabling by bundling it and stowing it in the vehicle’s frame. Replace all the trim pieces, ensuring everything clicks back into place properly. The installation is now complete, providing top-notch video quality and advanced features like ADAS and cloud connectivity, perfectly complementing the high-tech nature of the Integra Type S.
