LG Innotek LGD521 WiFi Guide (Part 2: Viewing/Downloading Videos)

Live View

The live view function is to allow you to see exactly what the camera is seeing. This is perfect if you have to aim the camera in your vehicle, ideally we want a 60/40 split (60% road, 40% sky) in the video for the most consistent exposure. You can also live view what the rear camera is seeing by hitting the button on the bottom left. To return to the previous menu hit the back arrow key on the bottom right. VOD will give you the list of videos saved on the device.

VOD View

VOD View gives you a list of all the videos on the card, the buttons on the left (N/E/P) let you filter out the files to find what you need quickly. If you uncheck P for example, that will remove all motion detection clips from your list (N for normal and E for event). To download a clip, click the radial button next to the clip you want and click the download icon (down arrow). If you just want to play it, hit the play button which will stream the video but not save it on your device. With either option, the app will prompt you and ask if you want the front video or the rear video.

VOD List

You can see the video date and time in the title of the file, it's in the format "YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS". You will also see the video types and recording mode in the title, a full explanation of the file naming system can be found on page 8 of the user manual. If you are streaming a video clip and decide this is the clip you want backed up, you can download it by clicking the down arrow button while streaming.

Download View

In the download view you can see a list of videos saved onto your phone, from here you can playback those videos or also delete them. You can also filter the list just like you would under the VOD View. Note that uninstalling the app may result in these videos being deleted so make sure to back them up to your computer before you uninstall the app if there are important files.

Retrieving Files

For Android users, you will need a file explorer app to locate the folder for the LGD 5 Series app. On our Samsung Galaxy S7, the downloaded video files were in Device Storage > LGD5 Series > download. This is where you can look if you were to connect the phone to your computer via USB cable. You can also copy or move the files to your phone's micro SD card.

At the time of writing this guide, there isn't a way to export saved files from an iPhone to a computer but this may be changed in the future.
