Tesla Model S 2-Channel Dash Cam Walkaround
One of our local customers contacted us about getting a Blackvue DR650GW-2CH installed with the Power Magic Pro hardwiring kit on his Tesla Model S. Many of our customers ask if these hardwiring kits will work on electric vehicles and the short answer is yes! We also recommend getting a Cellink Battery B as that gives you the advantage of parking mode recording without affecting the car's battery whatsoever. The Tesla poses a unique challenge in that the hatchback liftgate does complicate wiring a little and that's where the thin coaxial cable of the Blackvue cameras truly pays dividends. Other cameras including our beloved BlackSys CH-100B tend to use USB cables which are much thicker and a bit harder to pull through hatchbacks as you'll see in one of the pictures below.
All in all this product looks great in the vehicle and the wiring/cameras are practically invisible to the driver. The rear camera was mounted on the upper edge of the hatchback and from the driver's seat/rearview mirror is very discreet! Check out our walkaround video below to see how the camera looks in the Tesla Model S!
Installation Pictures
The front camera is mounted below the base of the mirror and is out of the driver's line of sight
With adhesive mounts, the cameras can be mounted on just about any hard/flat surface
Most modern cars have rather large mirror bases which have a lot of technology in them, because of this the camera has to be mounted lower but despite that the DR650GW-2CH still manages to be very low-profile!
One of the trickiest parts when it comes to wiring up 2-channel systems in hatchbacks/SUV's. Not a problem for our professional installation team.
